“Just as before we shared the joy of communion and brotherly love, so today, too, we share the great sorrow that has befallen the Church of Christ in Ukraine”, the monks of the Bulgarian Zograf Monastery on Holy Mount Athos stressed in their message to His Beatitude Onufry, Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine. They stated that the tragic nature of the events happening in this country reinforce as never before “the persecutions against the hierarchy, monastics and faithful of the canonical Church.

“Nonetheless, we believe that by God’s good providence, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will come out purified from the crucible of persecutions”, reads the message published on the website of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church Diocese of Lovech, “We join our humble payers with your prayers for peace and the ultimate triumph of truth and justice in your land”.
